Hello, Wild Pretty Things!
There are many kinds of New Year’s resolutions that people make. Many are doomed to fail right from the start because the goal is just too large. Somethings you can’t just hit the switch on. In mid-December, I asked what your new year’s resolutions were over on my Instagram (Add me here!) and a lot of you said it was to take better care of your skin and break bad beauty habits. This is a great resolution that can be completed by breaking smaller habits that hinder your skin.
Vogue always has amazing articles on skincare and beauty. I was able to find the article 5 Bad Beauty Habits to Break This Year (and How) and loved their suggestions. Since this month is all about skin care, I am going to be talking about their skin related bad beauty habits and providing a few of my own. Continue reading for more!
5 Bad Beauty Habits to Break This Year
1. Don’t Sleep in Your Make-up
This bad beauty habit is something that I am all too guilty of. It’s late at night and you’ve had a busy day. You finally get a moment to rest and once you hit that bed, there is nothing that you want to get up for. That especially goes for your beauty regime. Just like Vogue suggests, I always keep some high-quality face wipes close at hand in my nightstand.
My favorite wipes are the Neutrogena Makeup removing towelettes. They are SUPER affordable and can be picked up at any Target/ Rite Aid/ CVS.
I haven’t used the Bamboo Spa facial wipes but am always interested when I see products with tea tree oil in it. If you have acne prone skin, then these wipes may do amazing things for you. Tea tree oil is antiseptic, so it cleans and tones the skin, killing bacteria.
If you have sensitive skin, the Yes To Cucumbers facial wipes is a must-have. These wipes have aloe and cucumber to help remove make-up and sooth and nourish skin. Check out some other beauty products recommended below!
2. Forgetting to Wear Sunscreen Daily
The risk of damage from UVA and UVB rays has never been a larger concern. To combat and protect your skin, apply sunscreen every day is crucial for younger looking skin. Sometimes adding another step into your routine isn’t ideal, which why a foundation with sunscreen already in it is a must for the girl on the go.
I don’t mind taking that extra step in the AM and applying sunscreen. I love the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer facial sunscreen. I find it absorbs into the skin quickly and doesn’t leave a greasy residue.
Vogue recommends the Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Le Teint Radiance Awakening Foundation that has a whopping SPF of 22! Making putting on sunscreen something you don’t even have to think about.
The Maybelline Fit Me foundation is a great bargain option. The foundation has a slightly lower SPF, at 18, but it’s a good option to add with an SPF. Check out some other beauty products recommended below!
3. Use Eye Cream
This is something that I have only just heard about and have told myself to use regularly. The skin under your eyes is much more fragile than the rest of your face. In order to ensure that the bags don’t become larger or start to sag, a high-quality eye cream is something of huge importance.
Shiseido is known for their amazing, high-quality products. I have heard amazing things about this eye cream lately and highly recommend it if you think you don’t mind splurging a little. The bottle is $47.99, but I have heard that it lasts you a while.
A drug store finds that gets a lot of buzz, is the Neutrogena Triple Age Repair eye cream. This product is great because it is to be used at night – making sure you don’t add time to your already cramped morning routine. Check out some other beauty products recommended below!
4. Drink More Water
This alone might be your new year’s resolution, and it is definitely a good one. Stepping up your consumption of water can have tons of positive effects, including clearing up your skin and leaving it more hydrated.
These Bottled Joy refillable water bottles are great to keep on you throughout your day. Always make sure they are filled when near a water source and stay hydrated. Make it a habit to keep this on you, just like your keys. Then you’ll never have an excuse to not stay hydrated. Check out some other beauty products recommended below!
5. Don’t Touch Your Face
Whether resting your hands on your face while you work or while you sleep, this bad beauty habit needs to be broken! Your hands collect bacteria from everything you touch throughout the day. Once they are placed on you had, the bacteria can get into your skin and cause nasty little breakouts. It’s important to not touch your face as much as you can. This can be very hard, almost impossible, so making sure your hands are clean is another solution. Wash your hands regularly or use some of my recommended products below!
These travel size hand sanitizers are the best for keeping your hands clean on the go. This variety pack has everything you will need. Including aloe vera sanitizer, which will be light on your face when you touch it.
I am a die hard fan of Kate Somerville products and this cleanser is one of my top picks! Making sure to regularly wash your hands isn’t enough, you have to keep your face cleansed too! This stuff is a little pricey, but you will see such a difference in your skin by using it. Check out some other beauty products recommended below!
