Top 10 Favorite Romantic Movies

best romantic movies ever

Hello, Wild Pretty Things!

I am a total romantic at heart & love any excuse to break out a romantic flick. With Valentines Day just days past, I thought it would be fun to share my favorite romantic movies & keep the love going into February. A lot of my picks are pretty standard top choices, but I listed a few you might not have seen & definitely need to watch ASAP. I would love to hear your picks! Comment with any of your romantic movie favs that I left out.

1. How To Make An American Quilt

How to make an american quilt 10 best romantic movies

This is one of the most beautiful & wonderfully written movies I have ever seen. The story lines are complicated, sad, and beautiful, leaving you with a romantic sadness. Throughout the movie you see the great love stories from each of the women who are making the quilt. Love in this film is more then just between a man and a women. The stories show the trials and struggles in the love between sisters and even within themselves. The cast is absolutely AMAZING – You are going to want tissues around if you are a cryer (No judgement, I am a total cryer!)

2. Amelie

Amelie 10 best romantic movies

This french classic is about a simple women who tries to change the world by changing the lives of the people around her. She discovers a treasure chest of memories from a little boy who used to live in the home before her. She decides to locate the man and return his lost treasures.  Along the way, Amelie finds love for herself. It’s super quirky and will leave you giggling through.

3. Titanic

As a 90’s baby, Titanic just had to make this list. Everyone knows the story here, so I wont even bother. All I really need to say is young Leonardo Dicaprio – He was such a mega babe and this movie is just fantastic.

4. 10 Things I Hate About You

10 things i hate about you 10 best romantic movies

I love the fact that this movie was a modernized version of William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew and most people have no idea. I remember watching this movie as a kid and dying of laughter throughout the entire movie. The cast is fantastic, the writing is cleaver, and it contains just the right amount of angsty to make it amazing as a kid & still relevant as I prepare to enter my 30’s.

5. Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind

eternal sunshine of the spotless mind 10 best romantic movies

This movie is such a sad & beautiful love story. If you haven’t seen the movies, it is about Joel who has just had a painful break up with his girlfriend Clementine. After the split, Clementine decides to have a procedure done to remove all the memories of her relationship with Joel. When Joel finds this out, he decides to have the same procedure done. The rest of the film shows his final look down memory lane as her forgets his lost love. So, that sounds totally sad and well… it is, but the story of their love and the good times will make you reflect back on relationships that didn’t work & the good times you shared.

6. 500 Days Of Summer

This hipster classic is about the build up to & demise of a relationship. We follow the two meeting, falling in love, and inevitable breaking up. JGL  & Zooey Deschanel make an adorable couple that just radiate #couplesgoals. This totally sideswipes Tom when Summer announces that she no longer wants to be with him. There is full will they wont they vibes until at the end he gets clarity.

7. 13 Going On 30

13 going on 30 10 best romantic movies

Even if it is just for the Thriller dance sequence, this movie is one of my all time favorite movies. After Jenna is embarrassed at her 13th birthday party, she wishes to be 30 years old as magic sparkles fall from above. When Jenna wakes up, she finds that her wish has come through and all her childhood aspirations have come true. The movie goes on & you see if what she always wanted was everything she thought it would be.

8. Breakfast At Tiffany’s

Love this movie about the all time independent women, Holly Golightly. Holly is a high class escort when she meets a new resident to the building, Paul Varjac.  After spending some time together, Paul begins to fall in love with her. Can he tame this independent woman? The movie is very different from the book, but its a classic and cute love story.

9. Pride & Prejudice

pride & prejudice 10 best romantic movies

I’ve watched this movie probably a million times in my life by now. There have been countless times sitting on a couch with my mother watching this movie and crying together- It’s kind of a family tradition. I love time pieces like this & this is one of the most beautifully made ones. Although, as I type this, I am really sad I left out Sense & Sensibility. It’s all high drama and shit talking old ladies, but it has an adorable love story that will make you cry.

10. Big Fish

big fish 10 best romantic movies

This movie is a Tim Burton fairy tale – What could be better? The story follows Edward as he leaves his small town in search of his lifes purpose. A lifelong story teller, Edward collects amazing and bizarre stories along his way. He travels until he meets his soon to be wife & becomes determined to win her hand. The story broadly is about the love between, the now elderly, Edward and his son. The last few scenes of this movie make me ball like a little baby.

Don’t forget to add me on social media below!

What Would You Add Onto The List?

XO, Ramsey

This is a great list…see, I’m that guy where my thoughts on this don’t make any sense given the nature of my blog topics…heck, what the hell am I doing here? My picks would be Titanic, which you’ve mentioned, Love and Basketball, Beauty and the Beast (Disney animation), and Dirty Dancing.
